MNOS
'''МобильНая Операционная Система (МНОС)''' (MobilNaya Operatsionnaya Sistema / Machine-Independent Operating System)
CCCP V6 Unix clone
In parallel with the work on the DEMOS clone, a group of nine specialists under the leadership of department head Mikhail Izgiyaevich Davidov worked on creating their own localization of the sixth version of UNIX called MNOS at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Computer Technology of the Institute of Advanced Studies of the Ministry of Automotive Industry. This OS was also oriented to the 16-bit architecture of the PDP-11, but unlike the Kurchatov specialists, who used the C language, the MNOS developers wrote in Assembler. The resulting code was fairly compact, but had objective cross-platform compatibility issues. Over time, MNOS was recognized as less promising compared to the universal, portable and multifunctional DEMOS OS. As a result, both branches of Russian-language UNIX were merged into a joint project, and specialists from the Institute of Advanced Studies of the Ministry of Automotive Industry joined the DEMOS development team.
